Chapter 5 - Level 2: Adopt AI
This chapter emphasizes the importance of embracing AI and adapting to its constant development. I have mentioned this before in my previous blogs, there are three levels of response to AI. They are Adapt, Adopt, and Adept, with the latter being the most effective. It stresses that reading and being aware of AI developments can help people understand its importance, as AI is becoming a fundamental part of our lives.
This chapter also argues against ignoring, resisting, or rejecting AI, warning that such an approach might lead to economic disadvantages. The chapter draws a parallel with how businesses and individuals had to adapt to Amazon's dominance in the e-commerce industry. The refusal to adapt to AI is compared to being "AI Amish," noting that, while this might be an acceptable choice for some, it may not be feasible or beneficial for most.
This chapter shows that adopting AI shouldn't be seen as a threat but rather an opportunity. Even though AI adoption may lead to job displacement, it also creates new opportunities. It gives an example of Bit Source, a company composed of former coal miners who have learned to code, illustrating that transitioning to AI can be achievable for anyone.
This chapter also highlights the potential for AI in marketing and the impact it already has on big players like Google. It shows how AI can enhance marketing efforts by automating complex processes and producing actionable insights from big data. The author suggests that businesses should actively explore existing automation tools and platforms, which can help them adapt to the big data environment and potentially pave the way for AI integration. The overall sentiment leans towards embracing AI for its potential to revolutionize various aspects of industry and individual work, despite some associated challenges and fears.
In conclusion this chapter stresses the importance of exploring, adopting, and becoming adept at AI. The author encourages readers to constantly keep track of technological advancements and take hands-on experiences in AI. Depending on one's field, there might already be a platform to help understand and integrate AI, or there might be an opportunity to develop one. Adapting and adopting AI are crucial steps, but these should not be the final stop. Instead, one should aim to become adept at AI. While acknowledging that the rapid sophistication of AI might eventually lead to the automation of just about anything, he/she emphasizes the importance of continuing to learn, adapt, and innovate. Lastly, the potential of quantum computing to greatly increase data processing speed, which could lead to unexpected advancements in AI. Therefore, being prepared for surprises and continuously seeking to become adept in AI is crucial.
